Many people see artificial intelligence as a threat to their jobs or as a replacement instead of looking at it as a tool to enhance the process; make your job easier and find candidates in a more timely and effective manner. So, what exactly is artificial intelligence? Artificial Intelligence, more commonly referred to a AI, is the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. Essentially it is computer software that has the ability to learn and grow on its own in order to become more effective. So how can this growing software be advantageous to recruiters? With the help of “artificial assistants,” intelligent screening software and digitized interviews, low level sourcing activities such as screening resumes and shortlisting candidates to interview can be completely left up to AI. This allows the recruiter to focus on higher priority items. Successful AI is driven by big data. Companies like IBM have developed a system called “Watson,” which has many different purposes: to derive insights from large amounts of data, to continuously build more knowledge and to measure the degree of effort required to fill certain job openings. AI has also made it possible to analyze emotional intelligence and truthfulness during video interviews, by analyzing facial expressions, word choice, speech rate and vocal tones. This technology is still in its early stages, but is developing and could be a highly valuable tool for the future of the recruitment industry. Companies like HireIQ have started using voice analytics to help recruiters in finding good candidates for jobs who make most contact via telephone. Similar to Amazon’s “Alexa,” the company HiringSolved has developed “RAI.” RAI does the job of asking recruiters audibly what they are looking for in a candidate then swarms its massive database for clients that fit the description. Not only does RAI compose the search but RAI also has the capabilities to connect with candidates by interfacing with a recruiter’s email. It is important to remember that AI is a tool that, when used properly, can be used to great advantage. As technology develops and new software is created, it is important to stay educated on the latest technologies and how they can best benefit you.
