The Role of Women in the Recruiting Industry

Recruiting is strenuous to say the least and a job some may say men’s tenacity is better suited for; I do not think so. There is a lot of observed evidence that suggests that women are the powerhouse of the recruiting industry. When recruiting is explored, it becomes clear that women play a very important role with staffing and the machine of the organization. Figures suggest that upwards of ninety percent of recruiters are women. Could it be that women are more adept at finding and discovering valuable candidates or are men not applying for these jobs? There is a stigma in the industry that women have better patience towards the industry.

There are multiple levels to the argument that women dominate the recruiting industry. The biggest question is obviously why this is the case. Some suggest that women may join recruiting in the area that they live because of familiarity. Some suggest that they are just better at it. Either way, it is an important issue to discuss since these women are feeding the company’s talent pool on a daily basis. Recruiters have an enormous responsibility to make sure each candidate is worthy of the role they are applying for. This would suggest that women know they are better fitted for this role and that they gravitate toward the profession where they actually excel and exceed expectations. Women would have to possess some sort of trait that matches best with this profession. It may also be necessary to examine other outside forces that guide women into the field of recruiting. Does education play apart? If it does, it would be best to understand at what point women decide recruiting is best for them. It is considerably clear that women dominate recruiting; it is obviously a successful profession for them because of the success of business in our nation.

A consistent argument for why women dominate the recruitment industry is that women are more personable when it comes to recruiting and have personalities that work best within the interpersonal sphere. It has been suggested that women are better at painting an image of the organization and help to make it seem like a welcoming and open place. Inter organizational competition make the workplace seem less appealing; women may help to counter that idea at the beginning. Recruiters have set examples and role models for women so the field of HR seems less threatening which caused it to become more attractive and something to pursue. Some suggest that the fields of education and nursing have the same appeal to women. Female recruiters are especially drawn to being paid based on results; there is an appeal to self-reliance and the fun of a challenge. Because of the fact that the more candidates the more money made, compensation becomes transparent which makes gender discrimination less likely to occur.

Women are believed to have more compassion which would imply better listening skills that boost interpersonal morale. They want to hear what the candidate is really saying. It is likely candidates trust women more because they care. Women are uniquely skilled in HR because it employs both hard and soft skills. Hard skills are more technical while soft deals with who a candidate is and how they will contribute. Regardless of what the reason is it seems that women will continue to excel in the world of recruiting and will always hold enormous sway over the direction of the industry. Having said that, there is always room for more growth for men in the industry. Women most of the time will always have the skills necessary to excel in recruitment which benefits the business world and makes it more inclusive. Recruiting gives women a unique role in the overall business structure that helps them gain more influence and power.
